Quick start
Get up and running with ObligoBoard in minutes — from sign-up to your first compliance dashboard.
Welcome to ObligoBoard — your all-in-one compliance management platform. This guide will walk you through everything you need to do to start tracking your regulatory obligations.
If you've already set up your organisation and are looking for specific features, jump to any section in the sidebar.
Before you begin
ObligoBoard is designed for compliance managers, legal teams, and business owners who need to track regulatory obligations across frameworks like GDPR, ESG, EU AI Act, and more.
You'll need:
- A valid email address to create your account
- Your organisation's country (determines which frameworks are recommended)
- About 5 minutes to complete the initial setup
Setting up your account
Create your account
Go to obligoboard.com and click Get started. Enter your name, email, and a secure password. You'll receive a verification email — click the link to confirm your address.
Complete the onboarding wizard
The first time you sign in, ObligoBoard launches a short four-step wizard. See the next section for details.
Fill in your organisation profile (optional)
The final step collects a few details about your organisation — business type, size, data handling. This lets ObligoBoard tailor your obligation list. You can skip it and finish later in Settings.
Explore your dashboard
Head to the Dashboard to see your compliance overview — total obligations, completed this quarter, due this week, and overdue items. You're ready to go.
The onboarding wizard
When you sign in for the first time, ObligoBoard guides you through four steps to set up your first organisation and seed its obligations.
Step 1 — Name your organisation
Enter the legal or trading name of your organisation. This name appears on your Dashboard, in generated policy documents, and on Evidence Pack reports. You can change it later in Settings → Organisation.
Step 2 — Select your country
Choose the country where your organisation is based. The country determines:
- Which compliance frameworks are recommended (e.g. UK Business Compliance Essentials for the UK)
- The default supervisory authority referenced in your generated Privacy Policy
- The locale of your obligation guidance
Changing your country later does not remove existing obligations. It only affects which frameworks are recommended for future activations and which supervisory authority is referenced in newly generated policies.
Step 3 — Pick your first framework
The wizard shows a list of compliance frameworks suitable for your country. Each framework is described briefly with its language badge (e.g. EN). Available frameworks include:
- GDPR Basics — core data protection obligations for any EU/UK organisation
- ESG Light Reporting — basic environmental, social, and governance reporting (recommended for medium and large organisations)
- EU AI Act Essentials — for organisations developing or deploying AI systems
- UK Business Compliance Essentials — Companies House, HMRC, ICO, and employment obligations (UK only)
Pick the framework that best matches your primary regulatory exposure — you can add more later from the Obligations page.
Step 4 — Tell us about your organisation
The final step collects a handful of profile fields that ObligoBoard uses to tailor the obligation set to your situation. You can answer as many or as few as you like.
- Business type & size — lets us weight risk and hide obligations that don't apply to micro businesses.
- Public-facing website — enables cookie-banner and privacy-policy tooling. If you tick this you can also enter your website URL, which prefills the Cookie Scanner and Privacy Policy generator.
- GDPR-specific fields (shown only if the framework you picked reads them — e.g. GDPR Basics):
- Categories of personal data you handle (personal, sensitive, health, financial, children's, biometric, location)
- International data transfers — do you transfer personal data outside your country?
- Automated decision-making — do you make decisions about individuals using automation?
Each answer unlocks additional conditional obligations. For example, ticking automated decision-making activates the AI impact-assessment obligation under EU AI Act Essentials.
Two buttons finish the wizard:
- Complete Setup sends your answers and activates the matching conditional obligations immediately.
- Fill later skips the profile and lands you on the Dashboard with only the baseline obligations. You can come back any time in Settings → Organisation and save your profile there — ObligoBoard will activate the matching conditional obligations when you do.
Key concepts
Individual compliance tasks — like submitting a GDPR data register or completing an annual audit. Each has a due date, risk level, and assignee.
Regulatory frameworks (GDPR, ESG, EU AI Act, UK Business Compliance) that generate sets of obligations automatically when added to your account.
A downloadable audit-ready report containing all your completed obligations and uploaded evidence.
Invite colleagues, assign roles, and delegate obligations to the right people in your organisation.
The guided tour
When you first open the Dashboard, ObligoBoard automatically launches a guided tour that walks you through the main features. You can retake any tour at any time by clicking the help button (?) in the bottom-right corner of any page.
You can also force-launch a tour by appending ?tour=1 to any page URL — for example /dashboard?tour=1.
What's next?
- Managing your obligations — update statuses, upload evidence, assign tasks
- Adding compliance frameworks — GDPR, ESG, EU AI Act, UK Business Compliance, and more
